Step 5: Prepare for Admitted Students Weekend

Online Engagement

  • UConn uses the WebEx video conferencing software, and all of our Admitted Students Weekend sessions will be held via WebEx. To prepare, you should download the WebEx software for free and familiarize yourself with the software. We also recommend uploading a photo of yourself to your WebEx account.
  • Be sure to do a technology check ahead of time, including checking that your audio and video are working properly with WebEx.
  • Due to the importance of engagement during Admitted Students Weekend, we strongly recommend having access to both audio and video throughout the sessions. If you anticipate issues with using audio and video during Admitted Students Weekend, please let us know at highered@uconn.edu.
  • Admitted Students Weekend will be virtual, but you can still enjoy our beautiful campus scenery. Feel free to use one of our WebEx Backgrounds during ASW! Download the files shared on the Neag Office of Communications website and upload to your WebEx account.

Attire

  • We recommend casual attire for our Sunday (Feb. 9) programming and business attire for interviews on Monday (Feb. 10).

Participation in Admitted Students Weekend will be virtual. The Weekend includes two components:

A detailed schedule will be available in January.

Graduate Assistantships: Review and Rank Preferences

To indicate your interests and preferences for assistantships, be sure to register and apply in CampusDirector. You will receive a link and instructions by email. Again, note that assistantships are not required, but we strongly encourage our students to either hold a graduate assistantship (GA) or full-time employment in a higher education or aligned role.

HESA students have held a wide variety of graduate assistantships on our Storrs campus in UConn’s Division of Student Life & Enrollment's Academic & Student Success areas (including our Cultural Centers); various academic and administrative departments; and on our other regional campuses (e.g., UConn Hartford). Our Financing & Assistantships webpage lists assistantship sites that are currently hiring for a graduate assistantship role for Fall 2025.

To determine your assistantship site preferences, we recommend you take the following steps:

  • Reflect on the types of knowledge and skills you hope to gain through a graduate assistantship. Consider what experiences you need in order to enhance your ability to be a reflective and inclusive higher education & student affairs professional.
  • Also, reflect on the characteristics of your ideal work environment (e.g., highly structured or less structured, many opportunities for collaboration or many opportunities for independent work).
  • Consider the context and mission of the assistantship sites, and consider how the context and mission compare with similar sites in which you were involved at previous institutions.
  • Review the descriptions of each available assistantship.
  • Look for assistantships that fit well with what you are hoping to learn as well as how you are hoping to learn in graduate school.

All Graduate Assistantships (GA) are compensated according to the contract between the GEU-UAW and the University of Connecticut. 2025 Graduate Assistantships will include a $28,597 stipend, full tuition waiver, waiver of selected fees, and access to highly subsidized health insurance. Please note: While each HESA-affiliated graduate assistantship includes the funding and benefits listed here, none include on-campus housing.
